Meadville Community Theatre is going to be moving to Cussewago Square in one year, so this is the final season in our beloved Odd Fellows Building. You won’t want to miss a single show as we give our home of 40 years the sendoff she deserves. We start with Tony award winning “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time,” taking the stage September 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 7:30pm, and September 15 and 22 at 2:00pm. The location is MCT’s theater in the Odd Fellows building on Allegheny College’s campus, 400 N. Main Street in Meadville. Tickets are $11- $13 and can be purchased at www.mctbackstage.com/tickets or reserved at 814-333-1773.
In “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time,” author Mark Haddon and playwright Simon Stephens use the characters to convey the experience of someone who might otherwise have remained unknowable in a beautiful, imaginative way. The play focuses around15-year-old Christopher. He has an extraordinary brain and is exceptional at mathematics, but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Christopher is found standing beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.
The cast of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” recognizes the responsibility of both doing these characters justice and honoring our longtime home in the Odd Fellows Building. Lead by director Geoff Hall, the cast includes Donovan Mascitti, Dave Neal, Vidal Mangal, Alicia Greathouse, Melissa Bivens, Jeremiah Saxton, Nerissa Galt, Meadow Campbell, and BJ Angstadt. Melissa “is very excited for this show to bring awareness of Autism to the Meadville community and how people can help every day.“ Donovan “is grateful to be back under the tutelage of Geoff and under the roof of the Odd Fellows building before its departure.”
Meadow “wants to thank everyone who supports the community theaters for coming to see this show.“ It is because of you, our community, that the theaters in our area are so well supported, and we at MCT are grateful for all of our volunteers, supporters, and audience members.
The play runs September 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 7:30pm, and September 15 and 22 at 2:00pm. Tickets can be purchased online, by calling 814-333-1773, or at the door. We recommend audiences be age 14 and over as the play contains harsh language and deals with adult themes.
